Colorado Springs Heating Tip: How to Save Energy

If you are anything like most homeowners in the Colorado Springs area, you are probably getting sick of seeing the heating bill show up in the mail. Sometimes it seems like you just can’t catch a break with the high prices of energy these days. Well, at Airflow Pros we understand your frustration. And while we may not be able to drive down the costs of electricity, oil or even natural gas, we do have a few tricks up our sleeves to help you save some money this heating season. Follow these simple energy saving heating tips, and you may be able to start keeping a little more money in your bank account when those bills come rolling in.

  1. Learn to use your thermostat. While many homeowners opt for simple manual thermostats or the most basic digital models available, programmable thermostats are growing more and more popular. Unfortunately, these thermostats do not really offer any benefits if you do not take the time to learn to use them. Read your manual, ask us any questions you may have, and make use of those energy saving programmable options.
  2. Reverse your ceiling fans. You heard us. There is no reason that you should shut your ceiling fans off when the cold weather arrives. You can reverse the rotation of the blades with the flip of a switch on the fixture. Generally, keeping your blades rotating clockwise is the right winter setting. This will push heated air that has risen to the ceiling back down to the living space, allowing for efficient, even heating throughout your home.
  3. Seal up the cracks. If your home has cracks or gaps between doors and windows and their frames you are letting the heat you pay for escape right through them. Don’t throw your hard earned money out the window. Buy some plastic sheeting or shrink wrap for your windows and weather-strip your doors. Keep the heat inside where it belongs.
